Create the portfolio and the ad account
Meta ads for Facebook and Instagram run from an ad account inside a business portfolio. Meta still calls this area Business Manager on some screens. The portfolio is the container for your Page, Instagram account, and ad account. Create it with your own Facebook login. You can invite Campaignly after the ad account exists.
What you'll need
- A Facebook login you control
- Your business name and a business email you check
- The currency you will pay in, and the time zone for reporting
- About 15 minutes
The ad account time zone and currency cannot be changed after you create the ad account. Pick the currency on your card or bank account.
Create the business portfolio
- Sign in at Meta Business Suite with your Facebook login.
- If Meta asks you to create a business, select Create account or Create a business portfolio. The label varies. If you already have a portfolio, use the business switcher and look for the option to create another one only when this business does not have one yet.
- Enter the business portfolio name (your business name), your name, and your business email.
- Confirm the email if Meta sends a confirmation.
One portfolio for the business is enough. Do not create a second portfolio for the same shop or office.
Create the ad account
- Open Meta Business settings.
- In the left menu, under Accounts, select Ad accounts.
- Select Add, then Create a new ad account.
- Name the ad account so you can recognize it, such as your business name plus “Ads”.
- Set the time zone and currency, then continue.
- You can add a payment method now or when you are ready to run ads. Creating the ad account is enough to invite Campaignly.
Add your Page
Local ads are tied to a Facebook Page for the business.
- In Business settings, under Accounts, select Pages.
- Select Add.
- Add a Page you already manage, or create a new Page for the business and claim it into this portfolio.
If you use Instagram for the business, you can add that account under Accounts, then Instagram accounts. You can do that now or after Campaignly is invited.
If something looks wrong
Create a new ad account is unavailable. Meta sometimes limits new portfolios or new ad accounts until the business confirms details or existing accounts are in good standing. Check Account Quality in Business settings, or ask Meta Business Help. Do not create another personal ad account outside the portfolio to work around it.
You already run ads from a personal ad account. In Business settings, under Ad accounts, select Add, then add the existing ad account into the portfolio. Use that account for the invite if it is the one with your ads.
The currency is wrong and the ad account is already created. Currency cannot be edited. Create a new ad account with the correct currency only if the first one has never been used, and invite Campaignly to the new one.
Meta’s own steps are in Create a business portfolio in Meta Business Suite.
Next: invite Campaignly
When the portfolio and ad account exist, invite Campaignly to Meta Business on that ad account. Use the Campaignly email we sent you.
