Campaign types overview
Campaignly supports four campaign types, each designed for a specific marketing channel. Pick the right type when you create a new campaign, and you'll unlock channel-specific tools and reporting.
Here's what each type does and when to use it.
SEO campaigns
SEO campaigns help you track and manage search engine optimization efforts for websites.
Use SEO campaigns when you're:
- Optimizing pages for organic search rankings
- Tracking keyword performance over time
- Managing on-page and technical SEO tasks
- Monitoring search visibility for your client's domain
SEO campaigns let you set target keywords, track ranking progress, and organize SEO work by page or topic. You'll see historical ranking data and can compare performance across keywords.
Note: SEO campaigns require a connected search console or third-party SEO tool to pull ranking data. Manual tracking is also available.
Google Ads campaigns
Google Ads campaigns connect to your Google Ads account and pull live performance data.
Use Google Ads campaigns when you're:
- Running search, display, shopping, or performance max ads
- Monitoring spend, clicks, conversions, and ROI
- Managing multiple ad accounts for different clients
- Reporting on Google Ads performance alongside other channels
Campaignly syncs your Google Ads data automatically, so you always see current metrics. You can drill into performance by campaign, ad group, or keyword.
Note: You'll need to authorize your Google Ads account in Campaignly to connect campaigns. Only accounts you have access to will appear.
Meta Ads campaigns
Meta Ads campaigns connect to your Meta (Facebook/Instagram) ad accounts.
Use Meta Ads campaigns when you're:
- Running ads on Facebook, Instagram, Audience Network, or Messenger
- Tracking impressions, clicks, conversions, and ad spend
- A/B testing different creatives or audiences
- Reporting on social ad performance
Like Google Ads, Campaignly pulls live data from Meta so your metrics stay current. You can analyze performance by campaign objective or ad set.
Note: You'll need to authorize your Meta business account. Campaignly will only sync accounts and campaigns you have permission to access.
Local campaigns
Local campaigns are custom campaigns you build for local or offline marketing efforts.
Use Local campaigns when you're:
- Running local service ads or business listings
- Tracking local SEO (Google Business Profile optimization)
- Managing in-store promotions or offline events
- Combining multiple local channels into one view
Local campaigns don't auto-sync from a platform — you'll manage them directly in Campaignly. Add custom metrics, track leads, and organize tasks specific to local marketing.
Choosing the right type
When creating a campaign:
- Go to Campaigns and click New Campaign
- Select the campaign type that matches your channel or strategy
- Connect your account (for Google Ads or Meta Ads) or set up your tracking (for SEO and Local)
- Name your campaign and add any relevant details
- Click Create
You can run multiple campaign types for the same client — they'll report separately but appear together in your client dashboard.
Tip: Each campaign type has its own analytics and reporting. Switch between campaigns to compare channel performance side by side.
